We had the same experience with the land lord of this property. The real estate agent was lovely and helpful, and very understanding.

We, two women, lived there for about 2 years; and I can say without hesitation this this house was in the worst condition when we moved in. Multiple holes in the walls and doors, broken curtains, broken fence. The previous tenant had torn up the carpet, leaving nails exposed across the 'polished floorboards' (as it was advertised) which we cut our feet on before realising they were there, a HUGE pile of trash in the backyard about as tall as a person, rubbish everywhere, mould on the kitchen (due to rusted out gutters that were never fixed) and bathroom ceiling, leaking taps everywhere, a broken shower....you get the picture. We fixed up a lot of this ourselves. Scrubbed the mould off the ceiling, removed nails, cleaned up the backyard (although the real estate sent someone to remove the rubbish). However, when we asked for the tap to be fixed we experienced our first encounter with the owner. A ruge, misogynistic, aggressive man who proceeded to blame EVERY problem with the house on us. The only time he wasn't rude was when a friend of ours who is male was over. He woke us up at 7:30 going through our bins, pushed his way into the house, and nit-picked his way through the everything. The holes in the walls, the mouldy kitchen which could not be fixed without someone fixing the gutters first, the backyard wasn't neat enough...This happened every time we asked for something to be fixed. He was either too cheap to get a proper handyman, or had too much of an inflated ego to let someone else fix something. He would hang around for hours. Eventually we gave up asking for help to avoid having to deal with him.

Long story short, the real estate are amazing, the landlord is a pig.

Firstly, I want to stipulate that the property managers for this rental were amazing. They were quick to respond to all queries and were among the most polite and professional property managers I've ever dealt with and I'd definitely rent with them again.

The problem with this property is the owner.

The owner is the stereotypical, cheapskate landlord who will blame the tenants for everything and avoid fixing anything as though property maintenance is akin to religious sacrilege. When he does finally relent he will insist on attending to everything himself, even though he is clearly not a licensed plumber, electrician or structural engineer.

Compounding this is his obliviousness to the concept of privacy. I was once woken before 8am on my day off by a sudden bashing on my bedroom window. After throwing on pants and opening the door to find out what the area-wide emergency was, there was the owner. Going through our mail. Yeah, he's one of those landlords. And the reason for this invasive visit? Oh, just to check if we still wanted the leaking bathroom tap to be fixed, of course!

Throw in all of the huffing and puffing over prior damage that he tried to blame on us (after we improved the property via simple house and garden maintenance) and his intimidating behaviour to my female housemate and you have an incredibly unpleasant, stressful tenancy. The saving grace was the two property managers who worked extremely hard to create a professional barrier between the landlord and us, then worked overtime to ensure our exit from the property went as smoothly as possible. I don't want to name the agency as people will just see the two-star rating without reading the review and think it's directed at the agency.
